The story of SASTA is a story about creativity and continuity. What is now considered an innovation was simply the need of a young man from Nurmes, Finland, to search for the best equipment for his hunting trips in the wilds of North Karelia.

From an early age, Urpo Saastamoinen has roamed and hunted the vast wilderness areas of North Karelia. In these last, true wilderness areas of Northern Europe, refuges and marked trails are far apart. Even at a young age, Urpo understood how important good equipment and clothing are when heading out into the wilderness.

The first hunting equipment manufactured by SASTA was made of SARKA wool. When Urpo went hunting for the first time in his new suit, it was something extraordinary at the time and understandably immediately caught the attention of Urpo's hunting colleagues, who then wanted a similar outfit - the market research was carried out at exactly that moment, says Urpo today, decades ago later.

Based on the guidelines established by Urpo, SASTA continues to work closely with local hunters and other outdoor professionals and tests the products in real-world conditions with real users. Improvements and new ideas are quickly moved to a prototype stage and actually tested. These processes, combined with decades of experience hunting and outdoor living in the harsh wilderness of North Karelia, also form the basis of our research and development and give us the confidence to deliver great products for the most demanding hunters and outdoor users.
